In My Mailbox #31

Another week in blogging has gone by and it is once again time for In My Mailbox, one of my favourite aspects to not only put together but to see what everyone else has picked up during the week. You can check out Kristi's blog, The Story Siren for more info.

So in Emily Horner's debut novel, a high school musical is put together in memory of a girl's dead best friend plus a road trip is thrown in. I can see this book being full of laughs and a bit of mourning.
I've read a couple great reviews so I'm pretty keen to get reading this book but I have absolutely no memory of accepting a review copy so thank you to whoever has been keeping an eye out on my Waiting On Wednesday featurettes. How amazing would it be if publishers stalked our blogs and sent us surprise review copies of our most anticipated books. SOUNDS GREAT :)
For months, Cass has heard her best friend, Julia, whisper about a secret project. When Julia dies in a car accident, her drama friends decide to bring the project—a musical called Totally Sweet Ninja Death Squad—to fruition. But Cass isn't a drama person. She can’t take a summer of painting sets, and she won’t spend long hours with Heather, the girl who made her miserable all through middle school and has somehow landed the leading role. So Cass takes off. In alternating chapters, she spends the first part of summer on a cross-country bike trip and the rest swallowing her pride, making props, and—of all things—falling for Heather.
This is a story of the breadth of love. Of the depth of friendship. And of the most hilarious musical one quiet suburb has ever seen.

I picked up The Greatest Blogger In The World purely because of the title and my recent blogging efforts but once I delved further into the summary, I realised it's actually aimed at primary school age boys. If you'll remember last week, I did the exact same thing with another book. Apparently there is a 9 year old boy hiding somewhere inside me :)
When the school mascot is stolen and a multinational corporation tries to take over the school formal, Charlie Ridge has his chance to Be the Hero, Get the Girl, and Save the Day. That's got to give him a leg up on the quest to be The Greatest Blogger in the World, right?
I think you'll agree that this book has a really pretty cover, the only thing I'm worried about is the summary. I can still clearly remember high school and the swapping and changing of social circles that goes on but it's not an aspect I'd really like to reminisce about so Outside In could go over really well or not too well at all, we'll have to see.
The cool group at school is not as luminous as it seems. Sure they appear to have it all, but there are problems lurking just below the surface. Beautiful Jordan is struggling to cope because of her newly divorced parents, Meredith covers her past by playing the clown, Cecilia hides her feelings and a shameful secret, Sam is growing up, and Jack is caught off-guard when he falls in love for the first time. And then there’s someone else. She’s not part of the group. The others have no idea she’s there. But she knows that there are cracks. She watches them from the inside, out. From the outside, in.
Outside In by Chrissie Keighery is out now!

Unfortunately this book is apart of a series that I haven't heard of before so it'll probably go towards a giveaway I hold in the future. Sorry, guys! I hate to think that this copy could've gone to someone more deserving :S
What do you do when you’re a billionaire, you’re thirteen and you’ve just discovered your family tree goes back a thousand years to a pact made by three brothers to carry three caskets to three secret locations and to protect them for centuries to come?
What do you do when you know a bloodthirsty criminal holds the contents of one of those caskets and will stop at nothing to discover the others?
The Emerald Casket will be released June 28th.

I was lucky enough to receive a sample copy of this book a couple weeks ago and I was quietly surprised by the content so when the official copy arrived at my door in it's own special sealed package I was blown away at the sheer size of this book. I have no idea how I will set aside time to read this entire book, it'll probably take me an entire year but I'm looking forward to the story.
First, the unthinkable: a security breach at a secret U.S. government facility unleashes the monstrous product of a chilling military experiment. Then, the unspeakable: a night of chaos and carnage gives way to sunrise on a nation, and ultimately a world, forever altered. All that remains for the stunned survivors is the long fight ahead and a future ruled by fear—of darkness, of death, of a fate far worse.
As civilization swiftly crumbles into a primal landscape of predators and prey, two people flee in search of sanctuary. FBI agent Brad Wolgast is a good man haunted by what he’s done in the line of duty. Six-year-old orphan Amy Harper Bellafonte is a refugee from the doomed scientific project that has triggered apocalypse. He is determined to protect her from the horror set loose by her captors. But for Amy, escaping the bloody fallout is only the beginning of a much longer odyssey—spanning miles and decades—towards the time and place where she must finish what should never have begun.
The Passage by Justin Cronin will be released on June 8th.
