In My Mailbox #49

This week I was featured in the lovely Nely's Bookshelf of the Week meme which I loved putting together, head over here for a few pics of my tbr pile and reading buddy. I got some really great books this time around, mostly thanks to Nomes. I'm pretty sure we have almost identical taste in reading material which makes her an awesome trading partner! Check out The Story Siren for more information on the blogosphere's obsession with In My Mailbox.

The Truth about Forever by Sarah Dessen
Sixteen-year-old Macy Queen is looking forward to a long, boring summer. Her boyfriend is going away. She's stuck with a dull-as-dishwater job at the library. And she'll spend all of her free time studying for the SATs or grieving silently with her mother over her father's recent unexpected death. But everything changes when Macy is corralled into helping out at one of her mother's open house events, and she meets the chaotic Wish Catering crew. Before long, Macy joins the Wish team. She loves everything about, the work and the people. But the best thing about Wish is Wes—artistic, insightful, and understanding Wes—who gets Macy to look at life in a whole new way, and really start living it.

Sarah Dessen has to be one of my favourite authors so when I saw the summary for this book, I couldn't believe I'd left it off my wish list for so long. It's safe to say I'll be reading this one pretty soon.

As You Wish by Jackson Pearce
Ever since Viola's boyfriend broke up with her, she has spent her days silently wishing—to have someone love her again and, more importantly, to belong again—until one day she inadvertently summons a young genie out of his world and into her own. He will remain until she makes three wishes.

Jinn is anxious to return home, but Viola is terrified of wishing, afraid she will not wish for the right thing, the thing that will make her truly happy. As the two spend time together, the lines between master and servant begin to blur, and soon Jinn can't deny that he's falling for Viola. But it's only after Viola makes her first wish that she realizes she's in love with Jinn as well . . . and that if she wishes twice more, he will disappear from her life—and her world—forever.

Jackson Pearce spins a magical tale about star-crossed lovers, what it means to belong . . . and how important it is to be careful what you wish for.

I was tossing up between this one and the one just below basically because of their similar titles, I ended up getting both and I'm sure I'll really like them equally but this one seems to remind me a bit of Coffeehouse Angel from last year.

You Wish by Mandy Hubbard
What if all your wishes really came true?  Kayla McHenry’s sweet sixteen sucks! Her dad left, her grades dropped, and her BFF is dating the boy Kayla’s secretly loved for years. Blowing out her candles, Kayla thinks: I wish my birthday wishes actually came true. Because they never freakin’ do.

Kayla wakes the next day to a life-sized, bright pink My Little Pony outside her window. Then a year’s supply of gumballs arrives. A boy named Ken with a disturbing resemblance to the doll of the same
name stalks her. As the ghosts of Kayla’s wishes-past appear, they take her on a wild ride . . . but they MUST STOP. Because when she was fifteen? She wished Ben Mackenzie would kiss her. And Ben is her best friend’s boyfriend.

I love the cover of this book so much, I also really like the idea of a giant My Little Pony outside my window. I've found that birthday wishes come to bite me back a few years later so I'm sure I'll relate to this one really well.

Endless Summer by Jennifer Echols
Two irresistible boys. One unforgettable summer.

Lori can't wait for her summer at the lake. She loves wake boarding and hanging with her friends—including the two hotties next door. With the Vader brothers, she's always been just one of the guys. Now that she's turning sixteen, she wants to be seen as one of the girls, especially in the eyes of Sean, the older brother. But that's not going to happen—not if the younger brother, Adam, can help it.

Lori plans to make Sean jealous by spending time with Adam. Adam has plans of his own for Lori. As the air heats up, so does this love triangle. Will Lori's romantic summer melt into one hot mess?

Endless Summer is the sequel to The Boys Next Door. This edition includes both The Boys Next Door and Endless Summer.

Forget You was one of my fave reads of this year so I'm sure I'll also love this one by Jennifer Echols and be even more tempted to pick up her other books.

Caleb + Kate by Cindy Martinusen-Coloma
Private school, rich friends, vacations in France--Kate has it all, except a belief in love.

When Kate's family purchases a hotel in the Pacific Northwest, she enters a world that is wholly unknown to her. She never has any privacy because of the constant flow of guests. And as the hotel owner's daughter, she struggles to make friends.

Then she meets Caleb, a strange combination of working-class, Hawaiian culture, and Christian bad boy. He talks about love in an all new way that she finds so alluring. But the two have nothing in common. He rarely smiles, rides a motorcycle with a rough crowd from town, and worst of all, he totally ignores Kate. But Kate has something that he needs and she resolves to prove to him that what she has doesn't define who she is.

This one never made into onto my wish list but after seeing so many great reviews I knew I had to pick it up, I'm just a tad worried about reading of christian cultures, and a rich girl vs poor boy scenario.

Girl, Stolen by April Henry

Sixteen year-old Cheyenne is sleeping in the back of a car while her mom fills her prescription at the pharmacy. Before Cheyenne realizes what's happening, their car is being stolen--with her inside! Griffin hadn’t meant to kidnap Cheyenne, all he needed to do was steal a car for the others. But once Griffin's dad finds out that Cheyenne’s father is the president of a powerful corporation, everything changes—now there’s a reason to keep her. What Griffin doesn’t know is that Cheyenne is not only sick with pneumonia, she is blind. How will Cheyenne survive this nightmare, and if she does, at what price?

I've always been really curious about what it's like to be blind and I'm sure I'll know a lot more about it after experiencing Cheyenne's kidnapping adventures.

The Legacy by Gemma Malley
When a Pincent Pharma lorry is ambushed by the Underground, its contents come as a huge surprise - not drugs, but corpses in a horrible state. It appears Longevity isn't working and the drugs promising eternal youth are failing to live up to their promises.
A virus is sweeping the country, killing in its wake, and Longevity is powerless to fight it. When Richard Pincent of Pincent Pharma suggest that the Underground has released the virus, something has to be done to put the story straight and once and for all alert everyone to the truth.

It bothers me so much when books fail to mention they are part of a series, I only noticed earlier on today so I guess this will have to be on the backstop until I read the rest of the series.

Swot up on the hit TV series with this celebration of all things Gleeful. This is the only official Glee annual, featuring exclusive photographs and contributions by the stars and creators of the show. Get to know the Gleeks, the Jocks, the Cheerios and the teachers, strike a pose with Sue's guide to Voguing, discover your perfect match with the Glee hunk quiz, and become a dedicated fashion follower with Kurt's guide to dressing yourself.

It's time to get your Gleek on!

How awesome is Glee, it never fails to put a smile on my face and I loved them for featuring my favourite band Paramore just recently but I wouldn't go as far to call myself a Gleek whom I think this magazine in hardcover form is aimed at.

Q: Should I get a new blog layout?
